Jackie Heyne, 2008
OQG Guild President, and Sandi Pihlgren, 2003-04 OQG Past President,
met with the Quilts of Valor California group earlier this
year. They were asked to head up a committee for the OQG.
The OQG small group, PMS (Sandi Pihlgren, Dee Davis, Page Bidne,
Kerby Selmer and Gail Bant) volunteered to be the committee for this
ambitious project.
According to the
Quilts of Valor Foundation
website:
"The mission of the
QOV Foundation is to cover ALL war wounded and injured service
members and veterans from the War on Terror whether physical or
psychological wounds
with Wartime quilts called Quilts of Valor (QOVS)."
We are committed to those veterans
living in Iowa and Nebraska.
Our plan is to make blocks for
quilts. Directions for the Friendship Star block are linked in
the left hand column. We will accept blocks at each OQG
monthly meeting. Look for the drop off place at the end of the
membership table.
We will also accept donations or
red/white/blue or Americana fabrics.
When we have enough blocks the
committee, and whoever else would like to help, will piece the tops
and sandwich the quilts. We will be asking guild members to longarm
or machine quilt the tops and volunteers will bind the quilts.
We will be asking for contacts of
military persons who have been injured in the current countries
where there is war going on now. In addition, if any guild
member would like to submit the name and contact information of an
injured veteran, please contact the committee at
